What is WeaponMage?
WeaponMage has NOTHING to do with wizards and spells, let me tell you that now. What WeaponMage is though is a zany almost-overkill weapons mod for UT that replaces the original weapons with more exciting and more interesting ones. It started out as a basic weapons pack with some of the most (un)original weapons ever and then gradually had more features added to it. So enough with the rambling, you want to see what the mod features, right? Who is the author? James 'Parser' Ritson, head programmer of The Fraghouse Mod Team. That's uh.. me :). I've spent most of my free time beavering away at this, and I hope my work is appreciated. I did all the code and the reskins, I did not rip anything from anywhere (apart from Epic's code). Contact. Features
Combat Pistol - The Combat Pistol is a fearsome little sidearm. Primary shoots out green plasma balls in rapid succession. A barrage of those can easily dispatch any foe. Secondary releases hitscan explosive bullets, and these really do throw your opponents around.
Ges Bio Shotgun - The Ges Bio Shotgun fires out hitscan bio slop for both primary and secondary. The only difference is that primary fires less slop but has less recoil, meaning faster firing is a possibility, and secondary releases a larger load of slop but at a slower rate of fire.
SAS Shotgun - The SAS Shotgun can be destructive in the right hands, but a downright waste of ammo in the wrong hands. Primary is a fast barrel burst of single shells (each clip holds 20 shells, then after each shell is spend you have to reload). However, secondary is a behemoth. It releases any unspent shells currently in the clip.. boy oh boy, with 20 shells still in, you can do a hell of a lot of damage with this thing.
Shock Rocket - The Shock Rocket is a small but versatile rocket launcher. Primary lobs out a rocket bomb. When it explodes on a surface, several smaller rockets are launched in the other direction. Great for shooting around corners. Secondary fires a fire-trail rocket at a fairly fast rate of fire.
Pulse Cannon - The Pulse Cannon is an automatic machine gun, adapted from the Pulse Gun. Primary shoots out several flak chunks per barrel at a very high rate of fire, secondary launches a barrage of shock balls that you can swarm your opponent with.
Flamethrower - The Flamethrower sure beats a barbecue any day. Primary spurts out small but fast-travelling flames that set enemies on fire. A neat little method of avoiding the flames is to translocate out of them... Secondary releases a napalm flame that erupts when it hits the ground. If it hits a live object, it will set it on fire.
Infantry Dispatcher - The Infantry Dispatcher is a rather strange weapon, but its effects are devastating. Primary fires out glass marble explosives. Ok, nothing new there, but secondary is where this weapon shines. Secondary fire detonates ALL of the explosives in the map, regardless of who fired them into the level..
Hatchet Bomb - This tiny little terror can be a nightmare for both the owner AND the opponent. When used correctly and with caution however, this factor can be stripped down to just the opponent. Primary is a hitscan bomb that releases a large amount of hatchets (bouncy green beams that reflect off surfaces). Secondary, at a very high rate of fire, shoots out hatchets horizontally. It takes less than a second to fill the room with them.
M16 - The M16 is a fully automatic version of the sniper rifle, but it of course does less damage as a trade-off. However, it is still a very "stingy" weapon and whenever you score a kill, it is always a headshot. So go pop some heads!
ASMD Nuke - This redeemer replacement may provoke an outcry of "Not another one...", but it's not half a handy weapon, you know. Primary fires a shockbeam, instant hit. If it hits a surface that isn't an opponent, it will release a warhead shockwave, decimating everything within its surroundings. If it hits an opponent, it will gib them immediately. Secondary will release a shockwave ball that upon impact will detonate into a shockwave, also rendering anything within its explosion radius dead. However, if you combo the shockwave ball with the primary beam, it will teleport the owner to the location of the shockwave ball - handy, because the projectile travels straight and does not lose momentum, like the translocator beacon. Well, that's the weapons out of the way with.. now how about the items? Marine suit - When donned, the Marine Suit can grant the user protection from both falling and headshot damage. It is a very valuable tool to a WeaponMage Warrior. WeaponMage vial - The WeaponMage Vial has no advantages over the normal health vial other than having a new, in my opinion nicer looking skin. Kit box - The Kitbox is a modified health pack. It has a lovely new skin and gives the user that picked it up more health. Haste boots - Instead of jump boots, WeaponMage warriors are given the haste boots. For a limited amount of time, you can zip around, dodging fire from the deadly new weapons. Last but not least, let's take a look at the mutator features... to modify these, open up your WMSettings.ini file and find the corresponding values. BFFiringSpeed - Modify the firing speed of the Big Freakin' Hatchet (available as a separate mutator). bBurningGibs - Do you like roasted gibs? If you do, set this value to 1. If you prefer blood-stained regular gibs, set it to 0. bKitbox - Specify whether to replace the health pack with the kit box. 1 for yes, 0 for no. bHasteBoots - Want the haste boots to replace the jump boots? Your decision. bMarineSuit - Prefer a handier Marine suit instead of the normal Armour? Choose between the two. bCustomVials - Like the new WeaponMage vial skin? Make sure this reads 1 then! bShellCases - If you have a fast computer and want some more detail, set this to 1 to allow the Pulse Cannon to eject shell cases with primary fire. HitDamage - Modify the amount of damage each shot does for the SAS Shotgun. bFlames - Want to set people on fire with the flamethrower? Make sure this reads 1 then. Final Word I would like to give a big thank you out to the whole BeyondUnreal team for hosting us, Fraghouse. These guys are great at what they do, and if you have some cash lying around that can be put to a good use, give it to these excellent people to help keep BeyondUnreal running!. You can find the PayPal link on the main BU page. You know you want to. ;-) |
